Darwin Toy Library

We are a Toy Lending Facility

Darwin Toy Library was formed in 1978 so that families and carers of Children with Special Needs could access a wide range of toys and equipment to assist with the children’s development. In the early years the Darwin Toy Library housed an adventure camp for teenagers, After School Care, Long Day Care and vacation care. It was soon realized that all children need the resources available to the Special Needs children to assist with their development too. Hence the doors were open to the general public and a toy lending service was established. A special mobile service is offered to families of Children with Special Needs who have obtained a referral from their pediatrician or Therapist.
Darwin Toy Library is the largest Toy Library in Australia with close to 4100 items to chose from including Little Tikes, Step 2, Fischer Price, Lego, Jigsaws and Imaginary Play Items just to mention a few. All toys can be taken home for two weeks, giving the children enough time to play and learn from the equipment borrowed.
Family Membership is $66 per annum, with discounted rates offered to families with Special Needs Children and low-income families. There are group memberships available at $121 for Childcare Centre, Day Carers and all people that have many children in their care.
Darwin Toy Library is funded by the Office of Children and Families and by the Department of Education for its services to Special Needs Children with all other funding being sourced from Memberships, Donations, Grants and the Soft Drink van operating at Mindil Beach Sunset Markets on a Thursday evening.
